Declaration of Ethics

The Publisher, the Director, the Editorial Board and Editors of «AM. Rivista della Società italiana di antropologia medica fondata da Tullio Seppilli» fulfill their duties in full compliance with the ethical principles approved by the international academic community. Integrity in research publication has become a major issue of debate over the past years. The Editors of «AM. Rivista della Società italiana di antropologia medica fondata da Tullio Seppilli» are seriously concerned about the increase of plagiarism and other forms of fraud and misconduct in academic publishing. We consider it an essential part of our ethical responsibilities as Editors to be aware of these challenges, and to develop strategies for addressing them. We expect the same awareness of our journal's peer reviewers. Editors have a process for handling submissions from the editors, employees, and members of the Editorial Board to ensure unbiased review. Likewise, «AM. Rivista della Società italiana di antropologia medica fondata da Tullio Seppilli» is committed to ethical standards in its own editorial policy. In order to respond to the most common concerns that may rise during the process of selection and revision of texts, the Publisher, the Director, the Editorial Board, and the Editors of «AM. Rivista della Società italiana di antropologia medica fondata da Tullio Seppilli», they are attentive to the recommendations of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) - publicationethics.org - «Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing» (Jun. 2015);  «Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors» (Mar. 2011); «Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers» (Sept. 2017).

        GENERAL DUTIES The Director and the members of the Editorial Board are responsible for the choice of the materials published in the journals. They commit themselves to ensure that publications meet the needs of authors and readers and to improve the quality of journals and series. The Director and the members of the Editorial Board will be guarantors for the quality of the published works, for the respect of the freedom of expression, and for the fairness of the circulation of data. The Director and the members of the Editorial Board encourage study and research into peer review and publishing and reassess the journal’s processes in the light of new findings. The Director and the Editors have a system for managing their own conflicts of interest as well as those of the staff, authors, reviewers, and Editorial Board members.

        RELATIONS WITH READERS Every published work will state in a clear and comprehensive way the bibliographical and archival sources used in the research. The directors and the members of the Editorial Board will also inform about the funders of the journals. The Director and the members of the Editorial Board will ensure that the selected manuscripts are reviewed by suitably qualified reviewers and will describe the process used to guarantee an objective assessment of the works.

        RELATIONS WITH AUTHORS The choice of texts for publication will be based solely on their scientific quality, their originality, the clarity of exposition, and the relevance to the journal on which they will appear. The Director and the Editors will inform the authors about the characteristics required to the articles and the editorial norms. Upon request of the authors, the Director and the member of Editorial Board will be available to explain the reasons of rejection. The Director and the Editors guarantee that errors, and inaccurate or misleading statements are corrected promptly and with due prominence. The Director, the members of the Editorial Board, and the Editors, have a duty to act if they suspect misconduct or if an allegation of scholarly misconduct is brought to them. This duty extends to both published and unpublished papers. The Director, the members of the Editorial Board, and the Editors, will publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when needed. Editors ensure that contents are published on a timely basis, following the journal’s stated frequency.

        RELATIONS WITH THE EDITORIAL BOARD The Director and the members of the Editorial Board. The members of the Editorial Board are committed to protect the confidentiality of materials submitted for publication, to monitor the existence of conflicts of interest and to protect the identity of reviewers and authors in case of blind and double-blind peer review.

        RELATIONS WITH THE PUBLISHER. The relationship of the members of the Editorial Board to Publisher will be based on editorial independence. The choice of the works to be published will be based on criteria of quality and sustainability for the journals with no interference from the Publisher.

        INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY - ENCOURAGING DEBATE Director, the members of the Editorial Board, and the Editors collaborate with the Publisher to avoid plagiarism and intellectual property violations. The Journal “AM” encourages academic debate supporting the publication of results that challenge previous works published. Authors of criticised material are given the opportunity to respond.

        COMPLAINTS The Director and the members of the Editorial Board will respond promptly to complaints and will ensure there is a way for dissatisfied complainants to take complaints further. Complaints and appeals should be sent to fondazioneseppilli@antropologiamedica.it.
