Abstract
Temporality and Occupational Syndemic. The Health of Agricultural Workers in the Fascia Costiera Trasformata
By placing the occupational health of agricultural workers employed in the Transformed Littoral Strip of South-Eastern Sicily at the centre of the inquiry, this contribution revisits the relationship between health, migration, workplaces, and “occupational violence”. This reinterpretation is made possible through the interpretive lens of time and, more specifically, through the act of temporalizing work-related illness, where the element of mobility complicates traditional diagnostic frameworks and socially accepted classifications. A brief reconstruction of the phases that have historically shaped the development of occupational medicine, together with an overview of the main theoretical frameworks, provides the background to the migratory and health trajectories portrayed in the ethnographic vignettes set in the services dedicated to the health of agricultural workers presented in the text.
Temporalità e sindemia occupazionale. La salute dei lavoratori agricoli della Fascia Costiera Trasformata
Situando al centro dell’indagine la salute occupazionale dei braccianti agricoli impiegati nella Fascia Costiera Trasformata della Sicilia sud-orientale, il contributo rilegge la relazione tra salute, migrazioni, luoghi di lavoro e “violenza occupazionale”. A rendere possibile tale rilettura è la lente interpretativa del tempo e, in particolare, il tentativo di temporalizzare la malattia lavoro-correlata, laddove la mobilità dei lavoratori interviene a complicare i tradizionali quadri diagnostici e le classificazioni socialmente accettate. Una breve ricostruzione delle principali fasi della medicina occupazionale, insieme alla discussione dei principali riferimenti teorici, fa da sfondo alle traiettorie migratorie e di salute restituite attraverso vignette etnografiche ambientate nei servizi dedicati alla salute dei braccianti.
